Panda Licorice

Panda licorice, first created in Vaajakoski, Finland in 1927, is the best and most natural licorice.  With over 90 years of experience, Panda has consistently delivered delicious licorice around the globe. Not only is it flavorful and satisfying, but it also contains many health benefits. All the lines of Panda are vegan, meaning they are made with no animal products or by-products. Moreover, The All Natural Original licorice boasts only four ingredients: molasses, wheat flower, licorice extract, and aniseed oil. These ingredients are cooked in a traditional manner.

Part of what makes Panda different from other licorice is the use of real licorice in all the products. Many other licorices on the market use a blend of aniseed and sugar, which, while similar in taste, has none of the same health benefits as real licorice. Licorice as a health item is not a new fad. The early Egyptians would use licorice root in tea as a cure-all medicine. Today, licorice has been shown to boost immune systems, calm stomachs, and reduce stress. The all natural line has blueberry, cherry, raspberry, and original flavor options.

This line has no fat, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors, and no high fructose corn syrup. The soft and sweet line offers an original or a strawberry version of sweeter licorice. With plenty of options, licorice connoisseurs can truly appreciate the natural flavors Panda has to offer. For more visit

Panda History

Founded in 1920 on the second floor of a small building in Vaajokoski, Finland, the factory that would later become Panda got its start. Initially, the factory had a few failures of production because the factory staff wasn’t fully trained. Even with this setback, the company still produced 66,136 kilograms or approximately 145,811 pounds of successful sweets. The 1920s was a time of success for the both the customers of Panda sweets and the company.

Come wartime, the company continued to do well. People were more inclined to buy delicacies than luxury products, so even with rationed ingredients, Panda was able to stay in production. In 1949, the year chocolate stopped being rationed, Panda created 28 different chocolate boxes for Christmas. Prior to the deregulation of chocolate, Panda began producing licorice in 1927. The first soft licorice line was released in 1933. Its traditional cooking methods are still used today.

In the early 1950s, graphic artist Bror Zetterborg created the panda image for the Panda Pop chocolate bars. It was so well received that by 1961, the name Panda was adopted for the entire factory. In 1963 Panda began to be sold in the United States. Then, in 1977 the company began selling the All Natural Licorice products. These quickly rose to be the number one licorice in the natural food business. By 1986 Panda had become the leader in the Finnish licorice market. Today, Panda is known in America for creating delicious, natural licorice confections.
